We begin the 38th year of the band's life on a very sad note. The untimely passing of Zalman Yanovsky last December 14th was a shock to us all. Zally's contribution to the life and times of the Lovin' Spoonful goes beyond words. His legacy as a musician and entertainer however will live on forever and every performance that the Lovin' Spoonful gives from now on will be dedicated to his memory. His style and vision will also live on at the wonderful restaurant "Chez Piggy" in Kingston, Ontario that he and his wife Rose started and turned into a world famous destination for the hungry and thirsty. For more on Zally's life and career see "member emeritus" page.
2003 begins for us with other news too. We are very happy to announce that Richard Duryea, email@example.com has become the personal manager for the band. Richard's career in the entertainment business goes back to his days at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964. He produced the first concert ever there with Peter Paul and Mary and the second with Johnny Mathis. He then went on from there to tour and personal management for artists such as the Beach Boys, Chicago, Bad Finger, Billy Joel and many others. His current roster includes: Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Al Jardine of the Beach Boys and his "Family and Friends Beach Band" and legendary Gene Pitney. We are looking forward to working with Richard and the new avenues that he may open for us to travel down.
New for this year as well is that all of our bookings will be handled by Fantasma Tours Intl., the agents regarding Lovin' Spoonful bookings are Steve Peck firstname.lastname@example.org or Belle Forino email@example.com.
Over the just gone by holidays we had a blast performing on two very well received Caribbean cruises. Just before Christmas the Royal Caribbean ship Nordic Empress featured the band in their showroom on Dec 19 and 22. We were honored to have Sen. Bob Graham and his wife and friends in the audience. Then in January we were aboard the Costa Victoria for an oldies cruise featuring the Lovin' Spoonful, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Bobby Vee and the Vees and the Chiffons, Peggy March and Dodie Stevens. What a time we all had swapping stories with the other entertainers and fans. We want to thank Harmon Travel for inviting us on the trip and our fans for being such a great audience and shipmates.
There are a lot of new things planned for the band in the coming year, among them a new live CD and video, an expanded web site featuring our juke box, merchandise and interactive talk and messaging pages and expanded photos page with notes from the road.
